In April 1999, Des the Vet arrived back from Saudi Arabia, where he had been working with horses, dogs, cats, camels, falcons, tigers and parrots in the Royal Jeddah Hospital for the King and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. He followed his dream of establishing Kildare Vet Surgery in the racing stables attatched to Kilcumney House, the same location where Kildare Vet Surgery is today.
In the early years, Des had an assistant vet, and together they treated horses, pets and all other creatures great and small. It was a 24/7 vocation, but Des and the team stuck at it. In 2006, Kildare Vet Surgery became an accredited vet hospital, and the practice specialized in pets from then on.
Over the years, we added boarding kennels and grooming. We have specialized in tailored and context based vet care, with an emphasis on disease prevention. Our mission has always been to improve animals’ quality of life, and enhance their natural needs. New services such as Gym Dog, which is a daycare service focused on wellness, fitness, socialization and play in a natural setting. Gym Dog’s mission is helping pets live their best lives and remains true to Des the Vet’s early vision for Kildare Vet Surgery.
Our Gym Dog pet food range of natural recipes helps ensure that disease prevention remains a core principle of the practice. There have been many changes over the 25 years as we move with the times. Our monthly health plans are an exciting innovation as we continue to help pet owners with their vet care needs. Here on our website, we have launched our members page this month, building our community of pet owners to celebrate our 25th anniversary.
